THE TOPPER AND ITS FUNCTIONS
Share
The topper is not just a fashion product. It is a very useful bed accessory to improve the quality of sleep and night-time well-being and should be placed between the mattress and the mattress cover.
It is lined with technical fabrics for breathability or other functions.
It can have a thickness between 3 and 9 cm, but the most common is 4 cm.
Comfortable, lightweight and easily transportable, it has multiple functions such as preserving the integrity and good condition of the mattress, creating a barrier that reduces direct contact of our body with it and slowing down its wear. Equipped with practical elastic bands, it anchors to the mattress and holds it in place.
What is the topper for?
There are several reasons why it might be useful to purchase a topper.
Improve your body's well-being.
Regulates perspiration and disperses excess body moisture
Protect your mattress from moisture, dust and wear and tear, stains.
So to sum up, the topper is mainly used to improve the quality of sleep. Its function is to make the mattress more comfortable and soft, even if only for a short period, since it can be easily removed.
It therefore acts as a corrector when a mattress is considered too rigid or has become so over time. For example, if you have a spring mattress that no longer adequately cushions the weight of the person lying on it, the topper helps reduce pressure points.
Conversely, if the mattress is too soft and the body tends to sink into it, a fiber topper can help bring it back to the right level of firmness to increase its support capacity. It can also be used to join two single mattresses: in this way, the unpleasant sensation of separation between the two will be avoided, having instead the impression of sleeping on a single double mattress. On the contrary, on a double mattress, you can also use a single topper, a useful solution when the two partners in the couple have different needs regarding the reception of the mattress.
It has a protective function, because in case of stains, it preserves the mattress as it will be enough to wash and sanitize only the topper. It promotes transpiration, because excess humidity is expelled by the corrector and does not penetrate inside the mattress.
Types of toppers
Toppers can be made from many different materials, such as:
• memory foam
• latex
• natural fibres
• artificial fibres.
Each typology is suitable for a different type of need.
The artificial fiber Topper is suitable for making a too rigid mattress more performing, in addition to protecting the mattress, as it is light and easily washable. There are various weights from 300 to 1000 gr/m2, however the most used is 600 gr/m2 in terms of quality-price-benefit.
The memory T opper is indicated to make the mattress more comfortable even for people who suffer from back pain. The foam it is made of, in fact, models itself according to the shape of the back making sleep more pleasant, and then returns to its original shape once the weight of the body is removed. Memory foam is a hypoallergenic material, resistant to dust, mites and other allergens. But not washable. To overcome this problem there are covers with a zipper, washable. For those who require the top there are also covers with silver ions whose function is to improve the heat dispersion typical of memory.
So is it more convenient to buy a topper or change mattress?
It is not easy to answer this question: both can be a valid solution, the evaluation includes different factors and situations.
If you have an uncomfortable bed, a topper is definitely the best choice, which allows you to change the perception of the mattress. It provides comfortable support to the entire body and allows for uninterrupted and deep sleep.
Changing your mattress is a more demanding choice and even the very cheap ones, with bionic springs, which are usually chosen by hoteliers, do not have a built-in topper and therefore still need something that improves performance.
Our perception of mattresses has changed and products are born to satisfy new needs and ways of living.
In many cases, trying is the best solution to understand if it meets our expectations.
